These are simple things that will make all the difference when it comes to how long your piercings take to heal!
Clean Them Twice A Day
The first thing that you absolutely must do is to clean your piercings twice a day. Either buy a cleaning solution designed for piercings, or create your own by combining a cup of boiling water with ¼ teaspoon salt and then allow it to dissolve. Apply the solution to a cotton bud and clean around the front and back of your piercing, to help prevent infections. If you have any concerns about your piercing looking infected (signs of redness or pain) then make sure to speak to your piercer to ensure everything is okay and to get any more advice.
Try To Avoid Sleeping On Your Pierced Ear!
Something else to be aware of is to avoid sleeping on your pierced ear. Even if your piercing doesn’t hurt, try not to sleep on the ear for at least 6 weeks, as the pressure of the sleeping can cause the piercing to migrate slightly. This is more common for cartilage piercings like your tragus earrings, however it’s best to be safe when it comes to lobe piercings too! If you struggle to sleep on your back, then you could get a travel pillow to place on top of your normal pillow, then you can lay down with your ear in the middle hole! This can help you get a great night’s sleep whilst also allowing your piercing to heal.
Choose Solid Gold or Sterling Silver
A really important part of protecting your new piercings and helping them to heal is to choose either solid gold or sterling silver jewellery. This is because these metals don’t cause irritations or react with any bodily fluids, so the chance of getting an infection is quite significantly reduced. Sterling silver is the more affordable option with gold costing slightly more. A good piercer will never give you a piercing that isn’t solid gold or sterling silver, so this is also something to be aware of when you’re choosing your piercer.
Stay Hydrated
Something a bit more general that also helps you look after your piercings is staying hydrated. When your body is hydrated, it helps them to heal quicker, as it can help to reduce inflammation and help your body to repair itself. This is the case with all different kinds of things, as when you have plenty of liquid in your system, anything will heal quicker, from muscle damage through to cuts and bruises. So, drink a good amount of water whilst your piercings are healing, as well as all of the rest of the time to keep your mind and body feeling really nice and healthy!
